CASEWV Project Yes
Project YeSince 2001, Project Yes and its Teen Pregnancy Prevention (TPP) initiative have been dedicated to fostering Positive Youth Development by reaching over 3,500 students aged 12-18 across Mercer, McDowell, Monroe, and Wyoming counties within school settings. Furthermore, the program extends its impact through parent education seminars that address critical statistics related to teen pregnancy and poverty. Actively participating in local health fairs, Project Yes aims to inform both parents and youth about the underlying causes and effective prevention strategies for various adolescent challenges. The overarching goal of Project Yes is to increase awareness, reduce the incidence of unintended pregnancies, and identify and deliver targeted programs to young people in non-traditional public school environments.
Positive Youth Development
Project YES is a specialized initiative operating within Southern West Virginia, dedicated to supporting at-risk youth. The program delivers an intensive, structured 3-day curriculum designed to foster positive development and crucial life skills. We present to young people situated in challenging environments, including alternative schools, juvenile detention centers, juvenile day report centers, and group homes throughout the region. Complementing its core program, Project YES also conducts targeted educational presentations within Health and Physical Education classes in Southern West Virginia schools, extending its reach to promote wellness and preventative education to a broader youth audience.
Community Engagement
Project YES actively extends its mission beyond direct services by engaging the broader Southern West Virginia community to cultivate a culture of positive youth development and inspire community-driven change. Through visible participation in local events for outreach and networking, along with strategic collaborations like sponsoring sports nights with local semi-pro teams to promote positive activities and community spirit, the program reinforces its core messages. These diverse outreach initiatives aim to embed the philosophy of youth potential and resilience within the community fabric, ultimately fostering collective action and shared responsibility for creating a more supportive and nurturing environment for all young people in the region.
Summer Camps
Project YES strategically extends its positive youth development efforts into the summer months by organizing and running multiple sports-focused summer camps for local youth in Southern West Virginia. These camps provide a structured, engaging, and healthy outlet for children during the school break. Leveraging the popularity of sports like basketball, volleyball, and lacrosse, the camps are designed not just to keep kids physically active but also to serve as a dynamic learning environment.
Within the context of sports practice, drills, and gameplay, Project YES intentionally integrates crucial educational components. Participants learn about physical health, nutrition, and the importance of maintaining an active lifestyle. Simultaneously, the camps utilize the sports setting to teach and reinforce important life skills such as teamwork, communication, discipline, perseverance, sportsmanship, and leadership. By combining physical activity with targeted health education and essential life skills development, Project YES's summer camps offer a holistic approach, ensuring that young people in the community continue to receive valuable support and positive engagement throughout the year.
